Tips: Resist the Urge to Splurge

  • Identify your hunger to avoid eating when you’re not truely hungry.
  • Know what foods trigger your appetite and avoid them.
  • Find ways to control your hunger…distract yourself by using alternative activities to eating.
  • Don’t eat if you are not hungry!
  • Realize that seeing foods you crave can make you want to eat them more- don’t even keep tempting foods in the house.
  • 20 minutes to finish each meal.
  • Avoid alcohol- this causes people to have lowered inhibitions and eat more.
  • Eat more often…consume 5-6 small meals per day.
  • Refuel regularly to prevent overeating.
  • Never feel deprived…allow yourself a healthy treat once a week.
  • Know the difference between physical and physiological hunger.
  • Monitor your eating habits to detect where improvements can be made.
  • Listen to your body…eat when you are truely hungry and stop when you are full.
