Tips: Resist the Urge to Splurge
- Identify your hunger to avoid eating when you’re not truely hungry.
- Know what foods trigger your appetite and avoid them.
- Find ways to control your hunger…distract yourself by using alternative activities to eating.
- Don’t eat if you are not hungry!
- Realize that seeing foods you crave can make you want to eat them more- don’t even keep tempting foods in the house.
- 20 minutes to finish each meal.
- Avoid alcohol- this causes people to have lowered inhibitions and eat more.
- Eat more often…consume 5-6 small meals per day.
- Refuel regularly to prevent overeating.
- Never feel deprived…allow yourself a healthy treat once a week.
- Know the difference between physical and physiological hunger.
- Monitor your eating habits to detect where improvements can be made.
- Listen to your body…eat when you are truely hungry and stop when you are full.
- Prevent emotional eating…don’t even enter the kitchen when the urge strikes. Take a walk outside if you have to.
- Limit variety packs…people tend to eat more when several choices are available.
