Emotional Eating

Since people with low self-esteem tend to feel that they don’t deserve happiness, when things don’t turn out perfectly, they sabotage success without even thinking about it. If you’re a “happy” emotional eater, remember that it’s okay to be happy and experience success! Repeat a positive affirmation to yourself when you get urge to overeat because of happiness!

Those who overeat due to anxiety and nervousness use food to relax, so they need to find alternative methods to unwind. People who are axious often graze throughout the day, which hides the overall large amount of food that is actually consumed. Discover ways to de-stress and practice them often.

People who eat out of boredom often have unstructured schedules and thus fill the gaps with eating. If one feels badly about unoccupied time, eating fills it. It is okay to take some time off and NOT fill the time with eating!

People who eat due to depresseion picks food that alleviates depression, such as ice cream. Depression may occur because of holding in feelings, losing a job, divorce, sickness, or losing loved ones. When you’re feeling low, write your thoughts in a journal, or surround yourself with people who care about you- and avoid the kitchen.
