Estrogen

What is Estrogen?

Estrogen is one of the two main sex hormones in women and is synthesized mainly in the ovaries and comes in three forms in the body: estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3).  Estradiol predominates between menarche and menopause and can be converted to testosterone via the enzyme aromatase.  Menopause stimulates the production of estrone, whereas pregnancy increases estriol synthesis.  Generally, estrogen stimulates cell growth and proliferation, as well as the development of female sex characteristics, reduction of muscle mass, and bone mass growth.  Because of its influence on cell growth, estrogen alone has pro-cancer effects.  Fortunately, its negative effects are countered by the second main female sex hormone, progesterone.  Your levels of estrogen may decline rapidly during menopause and cause an acceleration of the aging process.  You can't prevent menopause, but you can prevent or alleviate symptoms of estrogen imbalance with Dr. Terlinsky's Bioidentical Estrogen Replacement Therapy.

Do I Have Low Estrogen?

Take our quiz to determine if you may have low estrogen levels.  Mainly caused by menopause, low estrogen levels, in an imbalance with progesterone, may produce symptoms such as:

  •     Hot flashes
  •     Breast tenderness
  •     Sleep problems
  •     Decreased memory function
  •     Low libido
  •     Painful intercourse
  •     Dry skin
  •     Less bone growth

Low estrogen symptoms interfere with your life, but it can also cause osteoporosis if not treated.  Dr. Terlinsky's bioidentical estrogen replacement can help.

Do I Have High Estrogen?

Take our quiz to see if you might have high estrogen, or estrogen dominance.  Sometimes, excess stress can prevent progesterone from forming, resulting in an increase in cortisol.  The low levels of progesterone relative to the levels of estrogen, meaning relatively higher levels of estrogen, appears as estrogen dominance.  Too much estrogen can give you any of the following symptoms:

  •     Anxiety
  •     Allergies
  •     Breast tenderness
  •     Fatigue
  •     Headaches
  •     Weight gain
